Hole in the Wall Outfitters
The Hole In The Wall Outfitters would like you to come and join us on a back country adventure. Our Goal is to give our clients the most memorable back country adventure you will remember and talk about for years to come.
Our Outfitter and his guides are professionals. We strive to give our clients a quality, high caliber outdoor experience. Whether it’s bagging a Bull Elk or taking you into the wilderness for sightseeing and photography – all a trophy within themselves.

About Our Area
Hole in The Wall ranch is the hub of our operation. The Ranch is located in the Lolo National Forest, about 45 air miles due West of Missoula, Montana. All of our trips will start and end here.

The area we pack into is located in both Montana and Idaho, in the proposed Great Burn Wilderness. This area is well-known for its big game hunting including Mule Deer, White-tail Deer, Moose, Mountain Lion, Spring Black Bear and especially Elk. High mountain lakes and streams offer superb trout fishing with breathtaking views of wildlife and mountain terrain.
SPRING BEAR: April 1 – June 30
We offer Spring Bear hunts for Black Bear of every color phase from the Lodge in both Montana and Idaho. In Montana, our hunting method is spot and stalk in the beginning of May to the middle of May. In Idaho, we hunt over baits and attract the bear in. Both hunts add up for some great memories.

ARCHERY SEASON: September (Deer & Elk)
If it’s the close encounter with the bugling Bull Elk in rut you are after, our archery season is for you. Our guides strive at bugling in bulls for close encounters.

We offer two hunts during the month of September. These hunts are pack in hunts. Where we pack out of our Lodge and into the backcountry to hunt.

RIFLE SEASON:

Montana

Idaho
End of October – end of November. (Deer & Elk combo)

Beginning of October
We specialize in two types of rifle hunts. Opening week, we pack into the back country where the Elk are hanging up high and hunt from our camp. These hunts are what so many have seen only in paintings. The Third through the Fifth week of our season, we move down to our prestige Lodge and enjoy all the amenities that it has to offer as well as some trophy hunting.

MOUNTAIN LION HUNTS – December 1st
Our Mountain Lion season is set up on a quota system by the Fish and Game. We have taken some great Cats out of our area using hounds. Hunts are three days ( But we will hunt up to five days if necessary). We base ourselves from the Lodge to hunt.

PACK IN HUNTS
We access our areas on horseback through the proposed Great Burn Wilderness Area of Lolo National Forest District 202 in Montana. Our camp is 9 miles from our Lodge. In Idaho, our camp is 6 miles from the trailhead through the Clearwater National Forest Unit 17. The camps are set up to accommodate small numbers of hunters. We use wall tents, wood stoves, cots and hunt on foot the majority of the time with the exception of horse back when possible. Pack in hunts are 7 day hunts with 5 days of actual hunting and two days to pack in and out.

LODGE HUNTS
Our Lodge has all the amenities imaginable in its picturesque setting. We hunt here on horseback and/or foot when the game has moved down from the high country. If it’s hunting hard and coming back to showers and hot tubs you are after, this hunt is set up for you!
SUMMER PACK TRIPS
We can customize your summer trip any way you want. Whether it’s one night riding to camp on horse back and camping out under the “Big Sky” or a combination of up to six nights where you ride to trout filled high mountain lakes and fish. Since we do so many different custom trips, we suggest you contact the Outfitter to set them up.

All hunts are physically demanding, so we ask that you physically prepare yourself to be successful.
